The Story of Buddy and Uncle Kenneth

A room full of treasures, a big empty chair, and a cat by himself

A beloved rescue cat grieves the inexplicable loss of his forever friend, but then comes to be cared for by new dear friends. His journey through profound sadness to love again—while treasuring lasting memories—is a story equally compelling for children and adults. Inspired by a child’s crayon drawing sent to the author not long after her husband’s unexpected death, this heartfelt tale is beautifully illustrated with drawings and watercolor wash conceived and executed to stunning effect by this picture book’s creative team.

Author Theresa Pepin is now mostly retired from a working life that required far too many years of professional and ghost writing. This book is her first publication of creative work—or, rather, “the most glorious kind of play.”

Formerly at Parsons in New York City, illustrator Thalia Suri is currently a student of fine art, art history, fashion design, illustration and graphic design at Florida International University. She is a full-time multidisciplinary artist who loves to stretch her creativity in new directions. This book features her first published illustrations.

With newly minted college degree in fine art in hand, graphic artist and designer Carolyn Rice Dean took on her first job at a printing company where she quickly learned the technical aspects of print reproduction from original concept to finished product. An accomplished creator, collaborator and producer, this is her first venture in book design for an author, but it won’t be her last.
